The big discourse happening in the book community right now is: “Why does everything have to be so damn political.” And here I am a Black trans author writing queer and trans romance and looking at these people like they are fucking crazy.

There is a brand of people (mostly white people) who think that they are safe. That project 2025 will ignore that there are people writing sexually explicit fiction. As if there hasn’t been an overwhelming attack on explicit content.

And you may be reading this and think: What the fuck does this have to do with fanfiction? The answer to that is EVERYTHING. If you have been paying attention to KOSTA/FESTA laws and Archive of Our Own, through them, the Organization for Transformative Works, You will know that they have battling the crackdown on explicit content steadily since those laws have been set into place.

My fanfic-loving friends, nothing is exempt from politics. This is not a football game. We are not crying because our team lost; we are crying because all our lives (especially the lives of marginalized people) are in danger. This is not hyperbole; this is fact.

I want you to look up Project 2025 and President Trump’s plans for this country.

With this Ring is political, because transgender people have been politicized. They want trans people to go back into our little boxes and pretend to be cis (even if that means an increased rate of suicide).

What it boils down to is genocide.

Let’s not get it twisted: I wrote this story as a form of non-violent political action. To clap back at J.K. Rowling who used the fame and fortune she has gained from creating the Harry Potter franchise as a weapon against transgender people.

This series is a direct result of her transphobic and racist attacks against Imane Khalif. A Black Muslim cis woman. And if my fanfic or my books make you feel uncomfortable?

I need you to sit in your discomfort and ask yourself why. Dig deep, friends. But as for me? I will continue to write my political as hell fanfic.
