Hortense Cooper is a Ravenclaw that graduated within the same year as Kendis. However, during that time Hortense and Kendis didn’t really interact at until they met again in Los Angeles. Hortense comes an upper middle class family that owns one of the oldest apothecaries in England. Her parents always stressed the importance of family legacy and following in the footsteps. As a result, Hortense has an expertise in Herbology and Potions. However, Hortense hates both subject with a passion. Hortense family hid in America during the war but Hortense fell in love with the freedom America afforded her. It was during her time that Hortense came to the realization that she was pansexual.

After the war, both her and her family returned to England. Hortense went back to Hogwarts to finish out her eighth year and to take her Newts. After graduation she worked her family’s business but hated every minute of it and quit shortly after. When Kendis put out an ad in the newspaper for a receptionist, by strike of chance, it was Hortense who answered it. They both were shocked to find that not only were they both witches but they both went to Hogwarts at the same time.

Even though both Hortense and Kendis are both queer and there was some attraction between them, Kendis was very clear that she would never get involved in Hortense because she was an employee.

Hortense respected that and backed off. Hortense is loud, assertive, and a gossip. She is also a fashionista that constantly despairs of Kendis’s fashion sense. But when push come to shove, Hortense is fiercely protective of her friend and boss.
