I have been re-reading those first few chapters of The Temporary Spouse, and yeah, I was a bit alarmed at how rough it was. But more than that, I’m proud of how far this little series has come along.
A Sincere Thank You
When I published the first chapter, I was pretty sure that no one other than me would want to read this fic. But then over the years, my fic has hit the top 100 and even the top 50 of the many Wattpad charts.
And honestly, all I do is copy and paste the shit I drop on here and on ao3 and call it a good ole day. Who wants to write about a Black non-binary autistic Harry Potter? A lot of folks, apparently. I just want to take a moment to thank all of you who have been so supportive of this little spite fic.
I also want to take a moment to thank all of the people who have donated money to any of the featured trans charities and trans GFM. This means more to me than I would ever say.
New Cover, Who Dis?
Beyond that, I have decided to change things around. Kendis has outgrown her face claim, and I wanted to have a darker-skinned Kendis. Less fawn brown and more golden brown with a more androgynous appeal.
Also, I realized as I was re-reading Temp Spouse how much Los Angeles is a third character in the story. Honestly, I always try to write like that, but I think it’s much more obvious in the Temporary Spouse.
And I have really wanted to redo the covers for the Temporary Spouse. I love it, and honestly, it feels more true to the changes this story has gone through over the last nine months since I began writing this series.
Although I might tweak it a bit because I’m not quite sold on the font and the font color choices for the cover. It just feels off to me, and as a graphic designer, a font will make or break a design.
Status Report
Let’s talk about the current status of Temporary Spouse. Right now, the Temporary Spouse has 36,000 words published right now. It’s almost longer than my longest original book ‘Splinter‘, which is 39,000 words in total.
But that is the tip of the iceberg! In truth, Temporary Spouse is two chapters from being done, and all it needs is some quick tweaks, and then I will be sending a lot of those chapters to my copyeditor (and yes, I actually found a very affordable copyeditor who does beta read my fanfic). I have dyslexia, and having a copyeditor makes it easier for me to publish on time.
The real current word count goal for Temporary Spouse is 72,000 words. I am at a point where I’m debating upping my posting schedule to once a week because I really want to be done with Temporary Spouse by the end of the year. I spent all of this week writing it, and I ended up writing 14k words in 5 days.
Not to mention, I have tons of extra asides that I have been sitting on that takes place after the end of Temporary Spouse. I just don’t want to spoil the ending for you. I have already written about a quarter of the next fic in this series, ‘The Perilous Husband,’ and I’m chomping at the bit to get back to it.
However, before I do, I want to go back and clean up any mistakes and typos, especially in the first five chapters, and adjust Kendis’s description to reflect the new faceclaim.
Extra Author is Extra!
You might be thinking, Gigi, this is all too much. And yeah, it is, but the thing is, I love Kendis and Tony together. I am this series’ biggest fan, and I absolutely plan on re-reading this story for my own enjoyment. So, of course, I’m going to be extra as hell. This is my escape pod to escape the hellscape, that is, real life.
Oh, by the way, I wanted to remind you that next week is upload week, and Wattpad and AO3 will be getting different chapters. Wattpad will be getting the latest Chester Coil update, while Ao3 will be getting a regular chapter.
I mixed them up last week because I didn’t update my content calendar (and yes, I do have a content calendar for this series because I’m autistic and I like order).
And I think that is all I have to say for now! Thanks so much for putting up with me and I will see you in the next update!
